The house

Khum Sak Kham was the home of a teak-trading family from 1925. We restored all five houses with Chiang Mai carpenters, keeping the posts, the plank walls and the kalae on every gable, then added what guests need today: quiet rooms, strong showers and Wi-Fi you can work on.

Five houses, five ways to stay

The Khuang restaurant and reception sit by the gate, the pool fills the middle of the courtyard and the old mango tree shades the West House. Nightly room rates are “++” (plus 10% service charge and 7% VAT).

The courtyard every house faces

A 14-metre saltwater pool fills the middle, shaded by the mango tree and frangipani. Mornings bring coffee from the northern hills to the sala, afternoons are quiet enough to hear the leaves, and at night cotton lanterns light the courtyard.

Khuang, a northern kitchen in the yard

“Khuang” is northern Thai for the open yard in front of a house. Our kitchen makes its khao soi paste every morning, grills sai oua over charcoal and serves khantoke every Friday night. Walk-ins welcome.

We woke to the bells of Wat Chedi Luang, less than five minutes away. From the loft bed you really can see the spire. The khao soi at Khuang beat most of the famous shops.

Booking on the hotel site with LANNA10 beat the booking apps. We asked for an airport pick-up on LINE and the driver was waiting with our name. The courtyard pool is silent in the afternoon.
